gear ratios

Featured Replies

I know this subject is covered elsewhere but I found the following information about fabia VRS relative speeds in gear in a thread yesterday.

mph/1000 rpm

1st 6.6mph

2nd 11.2 mph

3rd 17.7 mph

4th 25.7 mph

5th 31.9 mph

6th 38 mph

Try as I migh my VRS in 6th at 2000 revs does about 62-65 mph which is about 31-32 mph/100o revs. If the figures that seem to be agreed in the thread are correect I should be doing 76mph at 2000 revs and 114mph at 3000 revs. Is it me, have I got a duff VRS? At 3000 revs i'm getting 90 something mph certainly not 114. If my speedo is that far out surely I would be tripping every speed camera in the land.

Anyone else think this is odd?

What year is your Fabia as the gear ratios changed in 2004..... :D

Yeah - wonder if you'd experience brake fade? ;)

Chris

Thanks for that Chris was thinking which one I had. Looks like its the longer box as I was almost hitting *30kph ;) at 4Krpm in 5th the other day. :D

:D Some 4-pot calipers and nice Brembos would definitely be high on my shopping list then!

thanks for the new info. My car is late 04 so has the new ratios. Checked again and shows 60 ish in 6th at 2000 revs so not too bad. The ratios indicate I should see 55 so probably with the error in reading an analogue speedo and say a 5-10% error it's near enough

With all this talk of gear ratios .... does anyone know what they are for the 5-speed box on the 100bhp TDI engine? A quick hunt on Google and Skoda.co.uk didn't turn up anything... :)
