Fitting components on Bolero headunit

Featured Replies

Hi all i have had a search but cant find a definitive answer on this on.

I dont want to change my standard Bolero headunit and understand that it has no preouts, but can i add component speaks via a crossover on the standard wiring.

Basically can i wire the standard speaker connection to a crossover and then connect the aftermarket tweeter and mid to the crossover as normal and will it be any benefit to sound on the standard unit?

Hi mate - just spotted this while looking for something else. And saw you hadn't had any replies.

Can't be definitely sure as I'm no ICE expect. You're right about no pre-outs though; shame really. Only way to be sure is to give it a try I suppose :)

Yea just wondered as have always upgraded the audio on my cars because i enjoy my music and like it to have excellent clarity but this will be the first time that i dont want to loose the standard stereo as like the factory look of the bolero (maybe upgrade to the columbus at a later date). Does the Bolero have the ability to play video by the way?

You can not play video on the Bolero. You should be fine with a component speaker system from the Bolero. The VRS has tweeters in the door anyway and I am sure you can buy packs that replace the OEM speakers with upgraded ones. I fitted some component speakers to my wifes civic a few years ago and kept the original stereo. So if could do it on that (which did not have tweeters as standard) it will be fine with the Bolero which already has tweeters fitted as standard.

Let me know if you do decent to upgrade, and what you put in. Could be interested.

While I think the Bolero is a marked improvement in SQ over the Stream, there's always room for more improvement :) - especially if kept looking OEM emoticon-0148-yes.gif

i have the door stripped down on one side so thinking of changing the fronts while i have them out of the car. Does anyone know how the signal is split for the mids and tweeters (is it split in the door via a crossover or split off the headunit before reaching the door)? I will do a bit of digging later on nights to see what i can find aswell :)

Don't think there'll be a physical crossover in the door, seeing how it's been done on other models. Never looked at it on an Octy2 though.
