Shelf life?

Featured Replies

In preparation for the imminent arrival of my new VRS I've been auditing my collection of cleaners, polishes, waxes, sealants etc. (you know how they can accumulate!)

Just wondering if anyone is aware of the sort of time these can sit on the shelf after opening and still perform as expected?

I'd like to assume that for example a 500ml bottle of AG SRP would last forever given they claim a decent application will protect for months.

Any thought?

Cheers.

Mine all froze solid over the winter in the garage and all seem fine to me!

Sounds promising. Mine have all been in the shed for 12 months plus and have been frozen and sun baked several times over.

After openIng them all up and giving the bottles a good wipe down I reckon I might get away with it. All still seem to look , feel and smell as they should so have just cleaned up the dried up gunk from around the caps to save rubbing hard bits into my shiny new paint.

Will let you know how it goes.

Thnx.

Product's will freeze depending on the water content in them and once thawed they are usually fine, the producuts that usually cause problems as those with thinner's and other such chemical's in, they tend to seperate and then stuggle to mix well again, some look lumpy.......

Most good polishes have a shelf life but it's more a case of see how you get on with them or if you see a visual difference to how it used to look then it may be wise to throw them away.........

Well I spent a few idle hours on Sunday trying out the old stuff on the soon to be trade in motor. Just for practice of course...

Seems to have worked fine. Infact a mate who I picked up to go to work this am said "didn't realise your new car was coming so soon!" taking that as a partial compliment but then he is rather shortsighted!

Must resist temptation to fork out on loads of new wax... ;)

I've just used some Meguiars Deep Crystal Carnauba Car Wax that I bought in Los Angeles in 2002!!! This was when it was hard to find Meguiars stuff locally.

It's gone a bit lumpy, separated out and looks a little like baby sick but it still smells lovely and had produced a magnificent gloss - so much so that a gentle puff of wind sent the bottle across the top of the roof like it was on an ice-rink and it fell to the ground shattering the plastic bottle :( Guess I'd better buy some more then

Mine are in the conservatory atm sweating in the heat which I worry about but they still work. I only imagine you have to worry about stuff mixed with water (done by yourself) and maybe wax going a bit funny.
