Windows 8 Preview

Featured Replies

Im obviously slightly biased, as a Windows Phone 7 user, but i really like the new front end to Windows 8.

All the demos have really shown the tablet side of things. It would be interesting to see usage for existing power users. Is this really just a pretty front end, on a revamped W7, or have they made W8 less productive for power users?

Are there still 30 variants and a £400+ ultimate version?

Aimed too much at the tablet market - which means desktop and tablet will end up being 2 very different interfaces.

The problem I have with Microsoft stuff is they embed their User Interface too deeply into the Operating System making it difficult to modify themselves. A User Interface should be distinctly separated from the Low level stuff, which would mean skinning it would be easier - and even changing the whole U.I. for a completely different code set would be possible.

I'm not a mac fan ( I don't mind it ), but I think that Apple have a major advantage in this area - they develop more intuitive interfaces which work on ALL platforms, Microsoft are going to end up with one interface on their phones, another on their desktops, another on their servers, and something which tries to use everything on their touch screen devices.

It's not going to work.
