Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear ...

I've woken this morning to a rare thing in West Yorkshire - a glorious sunny day. From my bedroom window, 800 feet up a Pennine hillside, I'm looking out over "England's mountains green", and an 'inversion' - clouds of mist in the deep Calder valley below. As the day warms up the mist will clear leaving just blue skies. I've got to go into work in a while, but plan to have a 'poets' day. My journey to and from work will take me over a twisty moorland road, with views north towards the '3 peaks' of the Dales - it's a real 'drivers' road ... great fun in the right conditions, today's conditions.

Normally, on a day like today, my 'regular' car would get a rest, stay on the drive, while Blodwen, my 3.5 litre V8 MGB roadster would be taken for a blast. There'd be no hesitation, the choice would be easy. So why am I having doubts today? Can it really be that even in today's conditions I'd rather be driving Betty?

Decision has been taken out of my hands. The distaff side has announced that she's going to the garden centre today, and needs Betty's rear seats folded down before I leave home so that she can load up with plants. So Blodwen will get an outing ... fair enough. B)

Have to say, there are some things a 40 year old MG does even better than a Yeti ... what a hoot this morning!

That's why I'd have not have a second thought about which to take on a day like this. B)

Had forgotten all about the joys of unassisted brakes with no ABS (eeeek) no power steering (muscles) and oversteer ... and of course that V8 exhaust note. Even the last couple of miles through the city is fun - driving close to parked BMWs and blipping the throttle to set off their alarms :giggle:

Yup ... missed the aircon too. No problem when blatting across the hills, but sitting in a jam at a set of roadworks with the sun beating down and the heat that a V8 generates blasting back through the uninsulated bulkhead ... betty swollocks!

Is that Betty's full pedigree name? :giggle:

I remember fondly a trip I had in the late 80's when I had a modified Spitfire mk3 and I went from Croydon down to Fareham in similar weather. It was a similarly painful end to the day with a sunburnt head emoticon-0140-rofl.gif
