1.6 TDI CR Economy - Very Happy

Featured Replies

My Octy 1.6TDI CR SE is one year old this week. Having the mpg computer has completely changed the way I drive - I have become almost obsessive about economical driving, and by taking it easy have achieved a brim-to-brim 66 mpg over 12,500 miles (by doing most of the local cold-engine trips in my wife's car instead). I'm well chuffed. I scrapped a Mondeo (36mpg ave) to buy the Octavia, was hoping to get a 50% improvement to 54mpg, never expected to make the official combined figure of 62mpg - so delighted with 66mpg - and loved writing out a cheque for a mere £30 for the tax.

It may not be the fastest or sharpest-handling car in the world, but must surely be one of the cheapest family cars to run. I'm well pleased with it.

Oh, and apologies to you if you're the lorry driver who has to keep overtaking a red Octavia doing 55mph on the motorway !

Well done!

You would probably get that consumption going a little quicker too.

Wish i paid £30 tax but i do get 50+ MPG most of the time.

BTW - who uses cheques anymore! :giggle:

Well done for having the patience to go at 55 on the motorway, I usually find I would rather spend the extra on fuel to get there quicker. Doing 80ish mph on the motorway my average fuel consumption over the 11000 miles since I got the car has been 49.4 mpg (Worked out on full tank calculations).

So if you see an anthracite Octavia going past you give me a wave

I'd gladly sacrifice my economy and tax and trade my humble red 1.6tdi for your lovely red VRS - perhaps next time ! And you're right - it wasn't the queuing in the post office with a chequebook - but tax disc online - takes about one minute to do - great stuff.

Ha not a chance! :giggle:

I am considering selling though and getting a Monte Carlo!

BTW I failed my test for 'not making adequate progress' for doing less than the 70MPH speed limit on a Dual Carriageway.....Not sure if the fuzz would pull you for it though.

I go faster on the downhill sections - when the indicator is up against the 200mpg limit.

Sad and slow - that's me !

But I've got a Suzuki 650 that does 0-60 in under 4 seconds - riding that is where I get my motoring grins

I hope you flash them back in !!! :p I got 51mpg on my last drive in the VRS with 2 people in it and a lot of weight was sitting flipping low at back and all sitting at about 80mph ish most of way (didn't speed in the UK france is 130kph :p)

Great effort on the MPG front I was exactly the same when I got my first car with constant consumption read out its good fun to set a target and half way change it to a higher one :D I would have been happy with 43mpg I had decided for that run lol still bearly raised my overall average :( 3400 miles on clock now maybe when it loosens up a lil more fingers crossed

You could take it to an indicated 59 that would be exactly 56 mph then you would stop cluttering up the second lane of the motorways with over taking HGVs

plug a sat nav in and see how far out your speedo is

Have you tried 63 MPH in the middle lane?????

I've had my 1.6CR since mid Feb and I am getting on average 55 - 58 mpg on most journeys, which gives me 700+ miles on a tank of fuel. The old 1.9 pd was giving me about 600 miles on a tank, so I am also pleased with the 1.6 CR. Other plus points apart from the £30 road tax is the quieter and smoother engine.
