Things to mention for a 4yr service

Featured Replies

I'm going to put my car into an indy to get the 4yr service and timing belt done, and mot.

He's a good guy but not a VAG specialist (pug, Citroen is his thing) so I wanted to make sure I was asking him to do everything that needs done.

So...

4yr /50k service

Brake fluid change

Timing belt

Water pump with metal impeller.

Anything else to mention?

He normally just phones up the dealers and asks for the relevant parts for X service.

Does the replacement VAG water pump come with a metal impellor now or am I better getting one from the factor?

Fuel and pollen filters would be a good idea also a strip down and clean of the brakes, main dealers often only give a visual check so it may be over due.

Not sure if the timing belt needs change Vag-Com - may be worth a check.

Cheers,

Mark

What's involved in a strip down of the brakes? There not drums so its all exposed anyway. I'd make sure they take the wheels off to check the tyres and discs and use some copper grease when refitting them.

Get the air filter done.

Make sure he has the correct tools for the belt change. I recall from posts on here that it requires a special tool to lock everything down whilst the belt is removed and replaced. Without it he could do serious damage. One of the more techinal chaps on here will be along shortly I expect !:smirk:
