Running problems 1.8T

Featured Replies

I have a 2003 octavia VRS 1.8T, I am having running problems from cold, I have read other posts about rough running but mine seems worse? It kind of judders when setting off (like i dont know how to use my clutch) also idles rather rough aswell? I have cleaned throttle body and re-aligned, this helped for a short time but back to normal now. It runs pretty normal when warm? The other issue I have is I get kickback/judder when letting off the accelerator under boost, im running a jabba sport stage 1 map. I have vagcom but not an expert using it, is there any logs i can do to diagnose my problems? maybe coilpacks/plugs?

Any help much appreciated, thanks

Coolant temp sensor would be worth checking as when it fails it can cause a rough idle & poor cold starts, If you have the old black type fitted replace it with a genuine revised green CTS.

any fault codes showing up ?

Isn't this a secondary air pump thing? maybe it is leaking and thus taking longer to do its job? I might be talking out of my rear end as I drive a diesel

had the same recently, changed temp sensor and all ok now

Just scanned car no fault codes come up? Maybe try temp sensor see what happens. Can anyone tell me where it is and what sort of job it is to do?

The old black CTS is notorious for failing, & if it hasn't failed yet it will at some time. VW/Audi had so many problems with it that they issued a revised green CTS. It is located on the top hose from the rad, & is held in with a C clip. 5 minute job to do. Leave the header tank cap on as it helps to keep coolant loss to a minimum. Get the new CTS & O ring ready to fit, pull the C clip out remove the CTS with the O ring & quickly put the new one in refit the C clip, & then unplug the wiring connector from the old CTS & fit to the new one. Top up the header tank & the job is done.
