Loose Gearstick

Featured Replies

I've noticed that the gearstick on my vRS is quite lax, if its in say 5th gear theres a degree of movement in the gearstick, I want to tighten it up as its starting to get quite annoying. Is there a way of doing this, I had the gaitor off but couldn't make sense of it as its different from the set-ups i've had previously and Haynes had nothing listed for the vRS. Any help would be great

theres just a clamp around the bottom or the knob, if you have a pair of grips or somehting you can try crimping it more to tighten it, or the other option is to drill a small hole through the bottom or the knob and put a small self tapper through same as when doing the pikey shortening mod

It seems to be the whole gearstick not just the knob itself, i'll have a closer look this afternoon incase im wrong

oh right hmmm, unless your dogbones on the way out, is it just when changing gear?

Erm its not really when changing gear, its when its in the gear position it just feels loose, like when you go to change gear you can feel the play in at soon as you move it. If you imagine it as slots its like the slot itself is too big for the gearstick shaft so it moves about (hope that makes sense)

Mine's the same. I assumed it's normal.

Or the fact I generally drive with my hand resting on the gearstick. Can't do it much good.

I think I can wobble mine about a tiny bit when it's in gear. I though this was normal? Gear changes are still smooth as ever - have been commented on how much nicer gear changing is over a driving instructors Corsa (to be expected I guess!).

Mine does this aswell. I just took it to be normal enough.

Maybe it is just the norm then

The gearstick does have movement in it when in a gear, it's not a sega arcade machine lol it's suppose to be like that.
