newb question - fuel filter

Featured Replies

I decided to get stuck in and bought a haynes manual for some DIY :)

I'm about to change my oil and filters, the only thing I'm not sure about is the fuel filter, do I need to fill it with diesel? I've seen some cars with a primer pump built into the lines, but nothing like that on my VRS. Haynes manual says just to swap the filter and crank the engine a few times and it will start, is this all I need to do?

Thanks in advance

Fill it with diesel, turn the ignition on a few times to prime the fuel lines. Then start it.

That's what i did when I replaced mine after filling up with petrol and driving it....lol.

what's the best way to fill it with diesel without getting it all over the place?

Filling it with a small funnel and jerry can of bottle of diesel.

you don't need to fill it with fuel, I never do, it just takes a bit of cranking to pull the fuel through the lines after you've changed; probably not best for your starter motor, but how often do you change a fuel filter, its not the end of the world like.

How much money in the swear box?

Not much at all, the whole thing was totally straightforward, I could have probably even done it without the haynes manual & just some common sense

Just noticed your location 'Dundee', so a Scot like me. We don't put money in swear boxes, but steal the contents instead.

Good going though, cheap service.

My car used to judder a bit too much when idling, often downhill. Since I've done the service it's stopped, I guess the fuel filter must have been well needing a change. Not bad for nearly 50k. Next mod, Carbon wrap grille and lowered. Need to get a photobucket account
