advice on de chromeing

Featured Replies

Ok i am going to tackle colour codeing my chrome grill on my car. I am wondering if anyone has sanded the chrome down and painted or used the soaking in bleach method. I know rob in NZ sanded his down and painted and has had no problems. I would like to sand it down and paint it just wondering if it's a complete pig to do or am i better soaking it in bleach for a couple of weeks.

Iam looking to get a really good finish on it and i have baught plenty abrasive sand paper to get the chrome off just want to know if its worth the hassle.

I did mine and there a complete pain to sand down, i would try the bleach option if i did it again

all it needs is a good keying with a medium grade sand paper then use acid etch primer first ( two coats ) its no hassle whatsoever then just apply your chosen colour simples

I think the spliters look good on a red car.

Now that my spiders have been refurbed in gloss black, i have to decide what colour to paint my chrome grill black or red? Descions lol.

I used sand paper to "key" mine, sprayed over it using halfords primer, then black magic then lacquer. So far its survived stone chips etc and the paints solid :)

I am going to go about doing my grille soon and my bump strips. Did anyone wet sand paper back the lacquer then polish it up?
