The 'Tour de France' effect ?

Featured Replies

I have visited this forum for many many months now and have been amazed at the number of threads relating to the waiting time people have to endure (particularly in the UK ) from the point of ordering a Yeti to the point of delivery. Why is there such a delay in the UK ?

When we ordered our yeti (March) here in France we given a delay of 4 months, but in fact we received it in just over two (May).

I was wondering whether this is down to the 'Tour de France'. Skoda are one of the main sponsors of the tour, and so, did they prioritise us (or French customers) on the production line to ensure that there are as many Yeti's on the road in France during the tour ??

I ask this question because I have only spotted two Yeti's in France (registered French) in the last six months, so demand is not that high, whereas in the UK demand seems to be far greater !

Ooooohhh, I wonder if we can get those stickers in the UK? C'mon Mark Cavendish, Bradley Wiggins et al!

I would suspect that it is more efficient for Skoda to make left hand drive models for France and and the rest of Europe than it is to make right hand drive for one market so they get priority. The exchange rate for Euro/Sterling is also pretty awful for European mfrs so again people in the Euro zone may be getting priority.

I may be wrong with the above but financially the points make sense. Be happy, you benefit from these points.

I am convinced (maybe I am wrong) that Skoda have tried to get as many of their sold cars on the road in France before the tour. They invest heavily in the 'Tour de France' as 90% of the cars supporting the ridders are Skoda. Given their investment, its a shame that the French market has not embraced the cars as much as other countries. The Skoda Brand has so much exposure on French TV during the tour (all you can see when you watch it is cyclists and Skoda Yeti/Octavia/Superb..) that you would think there would be more on the road.

I love watching the Skodas 'racing' those healthy types on their pushbikes. I've noticed how the cyclists always cheat as they get people in yellow jackets to divert the Skodas before they can cross the finish line

Will they have Skodas for the cycle racing at the Olympics or have BMW stitched up a deal as they have for everything else car wise for this event?

In that case, the waiting times ought to drop in Scotland because for the last two years, Skoda have provided Yetis as course cars for the IRC Rally of Scotland!

Maybe this is the point I am trying to make. Like I said, I have only seen two Yeti on the road in France in the last six months (of course there are more) but when I went to the UK a couple of months ago, between Dover and Sheffield (in one day !) I gave up counting after 10.

When I was there (in the UK) I walked into a Skoda showroom and spoke to a salesman. He told me he could sell as many Yeti as he could get his hands on, but the problem was the waiting time... 9 months +.

In our local showroom there are two available to buy, of course if you are happy with their spec. Otherwise its 4 months etc.

So in my opinion Skoda are losing sales in the UK because some people (I am sure) are not prepared to wait. Whereas in France they are not exactly flying of the shelf.

Coincidently, I read a French car magazine this morning about the best 'Suv's / Crossovers etc' on the market. Shock horror, the Yeti was not included. All the main ones were there but not the Yeti (THIS MAKES ME ANGRY). The question I ask myself is why. We all know its the one of the best cars in this catagory (if not the best) but the French motoring press (regardless if Skoda sponsor the most famous cycling race in the world) will not include it in their magazines...and sales and opinions largely come from magazines !!!!!!! Is this to do with protecting their own motor industry !

In the UK it wins all the rewards, yet Skoda can not meet the UK demand. Building a left hand drive/right hand drive is the same...

What I am saying is Skoda should sort out they waiting time in the UK, as the picture is not the same over here.
