s/steel turbo pipe leaking.

Featured Replies

hi,does anybody have a better way of connecting the s/steel downpipe from the turbo to the rubber pipe with o-ring and wire clip ,that leads to the intercooler.I replaced the O-ring a year ago,the car is a 1.8t 4x4,it is not re-maped! But i have oil weaping down again between pipe and heat shield and the car is not pulling like it once did. Is there a better aftermarket design to re-place this pipe? cheers ,ralph.

the best thing is to get a pipe off one of the older 1.8T golfs as they were made to use clamps instead of the push in fitting like on ours. I modified mine by cutting off the push in bit and using a straight Alloy connector and some Mikalor style clamps. Not perfect but better than it was.

thanks for reply ,Im going to try fitting new o-ring and filling void around pipe with silicone after cleaning around pipe with white spirit.cheers,ralph.

new seals might work but if you want to stay OEM then it could be that you have the older revision Pipe with weak lugs. The new replacement had solid lugs that do not deform like the older pressout ones.

Silicone in the void will not really acheive much as the pressure will blow by it if the seals are no good.

My car is remapped and I replaced the original intercooler to turbocharger pressure pipe with a later modified one 5 years ago to head off any problems like yours. Assuming that the part hasn't been further updated, the part number should be 06A 145 790C.

P.S. A 2005 Skoda Technical Support Bulletin on irregular running when starting engine from cold included this operation:

3) Dismantle the pressure hose from the turbocharger to the charge air cooler and check whether the socket of the sealing ring is damaged. When the pressure hose shows signs of any damage, we recommend replacing it with a modified type (Part No 06A 145 790C).
