Air conditioning goes off when you come to a stop.

In the summer months I always have my air con on but i,ve found when i pull up at traffic light and stationary for 2 minutes or so that my windscreen steams up. Once I start moving again it clears. It sometimes steams up enough in 2-3 mins for you not be able to see, very frustating.

Is this normal? Can it be adjusted to stay on?

Sounds very odd... so the fan etc actually stops running when you pull up ? It should all keep working to keep the screen clear or it would be pretty useless on a wet day... You say in the summer months... is the misting up happening when the weather is dry ? Is there possibly water somewhere leaking into interior somewhere which mean car is unusually damp inside... sorry so many questions but I just wanted to be clear that the system is actually stopping rather than it runs but can't cope.

Mine never does this so something is a little odd... perhaps best to have a word with dealer, you are still well in waranty p[eriod with 59 plate.

Maybe something to do with the car thinking your sat in dirty traffic & doesn't want to suck the bad air in? me just guessing there!

Do you have the Auto air recycle engaged on the climate control? If so it will detect dirty air and automaticly recycle it causing you to missed up. then when you get moving it opens the vent again.

Recirculated air mode

In recirculated air mode air is sucked out of the interior of the vehicle

and then fed back into the interior. When the automatic air distribution

control is switched on, an air quality sensor measures the concentration

of pollutants in the drawn-in air.

Recirculated air mode prevents polluted air outside the vehicle from getting into the

vehicle, for example when driving through a tunnel or when standing in a traffic jam. If

a considerable increase in concentration of pollutants is recognized by the air quality

sensor, when the automatic air distribution control is switched on, the air distribution

control will temporarily be switched off. If the concentration of pollutants decreases to

the normal level, the air distribution control is automatically switched off so that fresh

air can be guided into the vehicle interior.

Switching recirculated air mode on

– Press the button repeatedly until the warning light on the left side of the

button lights up.

Switch on automatic air distribution control

– Press the button repeatedly until the warning light on the right side of the

button lights up.

Switch off automatic air distribution control temporarily

– If the air quality sensor does not switch on the air distribution control automatically

when there is a nauseating smell, you can switch it on yourself by pressing the

button *. The warning light lights up in the button on the left side.

Switching recirculated air mode off

– Press the button or press the button repetitively, until the warning

lights in the button go out.

I haven't described it well, the air con is still on and fan still blowing but glass fogs up not only windscreen. I have noticed that it's much worse when it's raining but still does it to a lesser degree when dry.

Does it happen more so on hot humid days?

Can you check whether you get a small pool of water normally under the nearside or offside front wheel area of the car when the AC has been on for a while and you stop.

If not it could be that the AC drain pipe from the evaporator is blocked or disconnected and the frozen condensate that accumulates on its outside is being blown back into the car as it melts due to the AC compressor working less efficiently when stationary.

Do not have specific location of the drain on Octys but had a similar issue with a Civic I owned

It is misting up because the air-con has switched to recirc - see gadget6014's post.

Thanks for that, so why has this only just started happening? Could that sensor be faulty that stop the outside air getting in? I can now understand why but it seems mad that after a few minutes I cannot see to drive

Just wanted to check one thing. If you blow colder (than outside) air when you are moving, is it just as cold when you stop?

OP has an "S" model that does not have climate control - just standard air con - so no auto recirc.

If it is the basic a/c, then I would check the radiator fans. The fan controller will cut off the a/c to prevent the engine overheating.

If you blow colder (than outside) air when you are moving, is it just as cold when you stop?

Check the simple things first, is the pollen filter clean? Do the radiator fans come on when you switch on the AC? Have you done a scan with VCDS?
