Emissions Light

Featured Replies

Right had phone call from father in law as he has my Superb in Lincoln for a few days and I have been left with a bag of nails in a MKII Galaxy tdi

Anywho he says that he has had a emissions warning light come on and I am unable to scan it till he gets back tommorow, Now I had the same light come on just after I bought the car but put it down to a duff battery cause I had that at the same time :giggle: when I scanned the car it came up with coolant tempreture sender.

So the question is where can I find this sensor? I know where it is a MKI Octavia vRS LOL is it anywhere near that location?

Cheers Folks

The coolant temperature sender is at the back of the cylinder head under the EGR and is "accessible" from the RHS/front of the vehicle.

I removed the rubber intake hose to the EGR/manifold to give better visual access. Pull out the plastic "horseshoe" retaining clip and then the sender. The "O" ring will probably stick in the head - hook it out with a small right angled screwdriver. You will lose about a litre of coolant unless you're very quick and the "O" ring doesn't stick.

Leave the cable on the old sender whilst you fit the new one, and smear the new "O" ring thinly with silicone grease. Transfer the wiring last. Top up with 50/50 G12+/deionised water.

Beware Chinese Replacement Automotive Parts for about £5. German made pattern senders are about £17 from GSF. Old sender 078 919 501C. New sender 059 919 501A.

The new senders are green, VAG's crappy ones are black. They are backfilled inside with hard white epoxy which breaks the thermistor elements after a few hundred thermal cycles. Numbskull engineering.
