idle rev problem

Featured Replies

My car is an 07 Fabia 1 htp 70 1198 cc. I know completely nothing about cars but when hot (that is when weather really hot or when car stuck in traffic) my car revs are dropping low to almost stalling and then revving back up again. It was really bad in the recent hot weather. I have taken it to the garage twice but as problem is intermitant they can find nothing wrong when they plug it in. (took on Tuesday but problem was rectified when I turned it back on at the garage) Having searched these pages I was wondering if it is a throttle or heat sensor problem as this seems to be a common theme but don't want to look a complete fool at the garage mentioning these problems. Hope you someone can help as a little knowledge will really help.

My first thought was the idle stabilisation control, but the throttle position sensor, and possibly engine temperature sensor would be possible too.

Thanks very much for your help - might help me at the garage to pinpoint the problem.

It sounds like the EGR system could be causing over leaning at tickover, probably the EGR valve sticking open slightly.
