Tyre Selection

Featured Replies

Just joined your Skoda community today - didn't know you were out there till I was trawling internet for info on new tyres - I'v got a Superb Elegance 170 DSG saloon on 18 inch rims that is 15 months old and at 23k miles is going to need new rubber all round shortly - I had to change the front covers at 4k owing to pothole blowout. Just wondering if there are any other options reccommended instead of Continental Sport Contact 3's I am running with at moment. I don't drive car particularly hard and am more interested in lifespan of tyre and ride comfort than out and out handling characteristics. Any suggestions??

Michelin Pilot Sport 3, I changed to these, and find them much better, than the Pirellis, that came fitted on car, and they also get good reviews on tyretest.

Thanks - I'l read review

My first tyres were Conti Sport Contact2 18",but they only lasted for about 15.000km because of our "perfectly flat roads where you rarely find one pothole".Then I changed to Dunlop 18",but those lasted 5.000km because of the same reason. Then I changed to 17" and Vredestein Ultrac with a V profile, and they were great.I changed them after 50.000 km of sporty driving(that's a lot for me),and I can only say they are perfect regarding the noise, handling and especially driving in wet conditions. Now I have Good Year Eagle F1 Asymmetric with normal 225 on front and 235 on the back. They are not as good as the Vredestein ones but the handling and steering response was dramatically improved in my oppinion. If I were to choose again I would go for Vredestein

I fitted Eagle F1's on mine after the contis were shot all round at 19,000 miles , currently at 35,000 miles the Eagles still have a good 3-4mm tread left

Black circles are doing Falken 452's for a good price i really rate these having had them on my old Skyline

I've got a set of Toyo C1s for mine next time around - not yet fitted, but they are ready to go :)

I once fitted Vredestein tyres to a Mistubishi Galant 24V and they were significantly better than the Pirellis they replaced.

just changed all 4 tyres for Dunlop Sp Sports recommended by Hobbins in Manchester. It is like driving a diferent car ..smoother and quieter than the Pirelli P zeros

I put Bridgestones on mine and looking a lot better after 10k than the Contis were

I am on my 2nd set of Dunlop sp Sports. The origionals didnt last pi###n time but the Dunlpos are brill.Car is very smooth and quiet so I would recomend them.BTW the car has done 122k.

Anyone using 245/40 R18 tyres for the superb combi?

Any recommended tyres apart from csc3 and Pzeros?

what will be good tyre pressure? 260 front and 250 back?

infoschumi what type of Vredestein Ultrac tyres did you have, where they the Cento or the Sessanta? I had 205/55/16 Sport Contact 2's that were brilliant for the 27,000 kms that they lasted for, replaced them with Michelin's which lasted over 40,000 kms and while they were good they just didn't give me the confidence when pushing hard through the tight stuff like the Conti's. I've just got a set of the new 18" VW

Scirocco alloys and can't decide what to go with. A friend of mine runs Sessanta's on his Audi 450bhp RS4 and while he said that the tyres are good, I was just wondering about them on a bigger car like the Superb. The DPF is due to be removed next month and a remap is to be taking it in the direction of 220 - 240 bhp and a massive jump in torque, so I want to get the tyres right for the grip it'll need.

I took out a full service/maintenance and tyre contract with Skoda for my 2009 170 CR Tdi hatch and they replaced my tyres with Continentals, which in my opinion have beeen an absolute disaster with the exception of wear. They are noisier and were appauling in the snow, but I am now at 28K miles and rising with lots more tread to go.

BTW tyre contract does not cover punctures and have had to replace 3 tyres myself.
