New Fabia owner - swapped from TT

Featured Replies

Hi,

Did my PX deal with a guy last night. I took his black magic Fabia VRs plus cash for my S-Line TT...

First impressions.... I miss my TT!

Sure it will subside with time.

I need to get the cambelt done asap according to what I've read on here. It's a 2006 just coming up to 60k and hasn't been done. I understand that they now say 4yrs not like in the service schedule. Can anyone recommend somewhere near me to get this done? I'm in Melton Mowbray which is bang in the middle of Leicester and Nottingham.

I'm also finding insurance a joke. My current insurer point blank refused to transfer cover from my modified TT to my VRs as they're too risky. Apparently Skoda VRs drivers (fabia and octavia btw) can't drive and have too many accidents making them a high risk! Currently the best quotes seem to be coming in around the £500 mark with the few mods declared and Mrs as a named driver. I'm only paying just over £500 on the TT without her on it. Madness. I've tried the 3 forum sponsers but am waiting on I think it was Chris Knott to get back to me. AF was high, Sky was best but still eye watering I feel for a group 9 car. No mods declared the compare sites could only come up with just over £400, again I feel too much. Any pointers from people here?

Cheers,

G

Hi and welcome aboard.

That's seems about right, there aren't many people on here paying less that that. It's not TOO bad with 2 people and mods.

What don't you like compared with the TT? (possibly a daft question lol)

Skoda insurance came in about £540 with good cover and low excess. Can't see anyone beating it now to be honest. We are both 30 so does seem high.

What don't I like?.... its quite a big list in afraid but on a daily basis I will definitely be missing the sound of the TT and the quality of the Bose sound system. Having room in the footwell for my foot to easily sit on the clutch rest as well!

I'm sure it will grow on me.

I find the gear change a bit wooly. The amount you have to move the shifter is about double on the TT which had both forge quickshift kits. Is there anything available for the fabia?

My insurance is cheaper and I've got a lot more power than standard. :D

Welcome to Briskoda.

Baring in mind you've gone from a little 2 door sporty car from a "prestige" brand to a budget family hatchback with a warm diesel engine I'm sure it's not quite the same. Surely you weren't expecting it to be better?

Didn't you try one before you bought it?

The appeal is the fact that it looks fairly low kew, but has a good bit of ooooomph for overtaking.

The TT always struck me as a bit of a posers car. So completely different.

Hello there!

Welcome to the forum. I hope you enjoy your new vehicle. If you ever need anything give us a shout...

Thanks

Hassan

TBH Audi TT's are Nice but get your fabia mapped and a few mods and a quikshift kit on it and you'll be not far off a TT granted acceleration won't be the same but get away from 1st and 2nd into 3rd you'll be flying ...my mates fabia is re-mapped to 175 bhp and it shifts!!! diesel's are far more potent than you first think.... not bad for a waste product of making petrol!

Thanks for the replies guys.

Well in the end I went with Skoda insurance for £535.88 with the few mods included. Will ask in the future whether the underwriter will cover a remap.

Yeah I appreciate what was said about the difference between the TT and the VRs and of course I was expecting it. I sometimes drive Fabia's at work so knew what to expect but still can't help missing the TT.

Still looking for somewhere local for the cambelt change so any pointers would be appreciated. How much do Skoda charge as I know Audi have fixed price servicing and cambelts are pretty cheap with them.

What quick shift kits are available for the Fabia then?

Cheers,

G
