timing belt/chain tailgate

Featured Replies

hi all

i am after a bit of info on a y reg 1.4 mpi fabia estate

its the basic one

do they have timing belts or chains ? and how often do you change them its done 102,000

the other question is the tailgate

i can only be opened with the boot relase next to the drivers seat

i think its hasn't got central locking but there is an led where the drivers lock pin is

there is also a rubber switch above the number plate should that work the boot relase ?

if anyone has a wiring pdf file for the boot relase that would be a help

cheers

mick

It has a chain, usually changed when they become excessively noisy.

If it has a LED it will have central locking, check the fuses first. The rubber button should operate the tailgate release.

do you know which fuse it is

i have had a quick look and i think its No 31 but there is no fuse in it or any connectors in the fuse holder but will check again

you dont have a wiring diagram for the central locking system ?

cheers

If the central locking isn't working anyhow that will be messing with the boot. Do you have a locking rocker switch in the drivers door? Do you have manual windows?

hi

yes it does have manual windows and a leaver for the boot next to the drivers seat

but just got the key fob off the seller for the alarm and it looks like a central locking kit has been fitted

and it works off the alarm

is the boot relase motor in the boot or the tailgate ? may put one in coz there is an output from the alarm for a boot relase

cheers for all your help

The motor is actually attatched to the lower part of the lock on the car.

I am looking to do this with the tailgate myself. Bear in mind with nearly all alarm systems you will need to wire up a relay as the output would not be sufficient to actuate the motor, and may damage the alarm brain wired directly. It's not that difficult to do but just takes a little extra time.

It appears the release mechanism is the same for LHD and RHD, meaning two attachments with only one used (the bit in the car you see as the boot is open). Presumably the other can be used to hook an aftermarket release motor up, and there should be a way to bolt it somewhere.

I believe it may be possible to use the central electrics module of cars without boot release motors installed as standard as a relay, but easier to use a standard SPST automotive relay than try interpreting the wiring diagrams :)
