Octavia Scout EGR

Featured Replies

After telling everyone my 2010 (60 plate) Scout was the best car I've ever had it's managed to go down whilst on holiday in France.

Driving down the autoroute with roof box, children and kit for a fortnights camping trip in the south of France, the coil / glow plug warning light started flashing and the screen read 'engine - workshops' and it promptly went into limp mode. It was taken to the garage on Monday and an EGR valve fault was diagnosed. Now they are telling me that the egr part is on back order and unlikely to be fixed before next week....

Being newish to Skoda can anyone tell me what an egr is is and is this fault a common problem?

The RAC have fixed me up with a hire car whilst mine languishes in the garage several hundred miles away in northern France.

Apart from that it was the best car I've ever had to date......

EGR = Exhaust Gas Recirculation (generally, EGR valve) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exhaust_gas_recirculation

Can't help on the faults!

Yes its normal for it to goo haywire.( usually their is s sudden loss of power, maybe unpluged it may work, work on my renault that also had the egr elimanted

It´s in place and pluged in, just doesn´t work for the gases to recirculate.

Ive had 2 breakdowns in France, once with a Skoda & once a Mondeo. both needing parts on order. With the mondeo the ford dealer robbed a clutch master cylinder from a new car

With the Skoda it needed a new DPF & it took just over a week, double check how long you have the renter for & make sure its for more than a few days, when we had it the Skoda warranty was coveredcby the AA & the loaner was only for a few days so check. If you have left a credit card number be careful, you may get a shock when youn get home. If you have issues contact Skoda UK, they were excellent with us & covered the extra days & an extra night in a hotel whilst we waited for the car to be fixed, we had to pay but we were fully reimbersed when we returned. Talking to then now is always easier than hitting them blind with a bill when you get back

Also watch the phone bill, our mobile was around £70 extra & we had to foot that.

UK no, Škoda Customer Services on 08457 745 745.

An update, I'm back in the UK now thanks to the RAC. Unfortunately the beloved scout is still in a Skoda dealers in northern France - still waiting for parts.... How long does it take for a part for a popular diesel engine to come from one part of western Europe to France?!

My emails to Skoda customer services go unanswered - I'm rapidly becoming an 'unhappy driver'

I would ring Skoda & winge loudly, you also need to ensure you arent out of pocket recovering the car & I assume you have a loan car in the UK paid for by Skoda

Re parts you may have fallen foul of the French holidays, our car stood for a week during August because 1/2 the garages workforce were on holiday. The holiday season normally starrtts at some point in July
