Should i sell as is or strip a yellow VRS

Featured Replies

I had a accident in my 2001 yellow vrs and it is now a cat C write off (pic's are on my gallery) i dont know which would be better, to sell as it is or to strip it down to sell.

Any advice would be greatful :)

looks pretty ****** up!

for simplicity that what you can get for it.

if you have lots of space and time and a place to hide the bits from SWMBO then strip but its the biggtest mistake I made.

Can I ask tho was it you or him?

I hate seeing cars like that, she is pritty dead. RIP another mk1 vRS

That's not looking good. Another MK1bites the dust.emoticon-0106-crying.gif

If you split, 1st dibs on drivers door mirror. Sure some more vultures will be along shortlyemoticon-0136-giggle.gif

got a set of vrs mats?

Looks to me like you were turning right, and essentially drove out infront of the guy. judging by the road markings and the way your wheels are facing :p

Was everybody ok? nobody hurt?

If you have the space to do it then yeah break it,

But as said above i've broken a couple of cars in past and it takes up alot of space,

It is always sad when your pride and joy gets written off but i don't think that will be seeing the road again it looks like its had quiet a smack

DIBS on the drivers seat!! I need a new one badly!

BTW is the car hiding any extras? Like RARB, things like that? If so I want to put my name down for that as well. And the gear knob if that is in a good shape. Sorry to pick it apart lol.

On a sde note from my part pinching...

Me and my dad do fix and sell CAT C/D cars and TBH I wouldn't say it would be a hard job to fix but parts like the bumper maybe hard to get hold of/expensive. I don't know if you can still get it to order or not.

the problem is the cars worth is only x and to fix will out way the cost of the car

the chassis leg will be bent for sure and the inner wing is fecked

you can get the bumper cheap brand new but it will cost you ££££ to repair and the car is only worth £1500

this is not a fixable car imo the cost of a full jig will cost lots on its own!!!

Break it!

Worth more in bits than it is there in the pics. Scrap value £200.

as above - only financially sensible option tbh

Yea was my fault (gutted) i followed another car turning right and just didnt see the car coming, and of course he is claiming for me killing him (well i must have after seeing his claim lol) i was lucky seeing as didnt have seatbelt on (only nipping down road) airbags do there job but feel like mike tyson had punched me in the face but both walked away. Only had the car since last feb and it run like a dream just need to find another one now.

If you get another yellow one and you've got somewhere to store the bits I'd be inclined to keep the useable panels/doors etc. Just incase

Cheers for the advice guys still not sure what to do lol, there are pics on my gallery of it after the crash and i will add some more or engine bay etc.

main thing is i walked away and can get another one :)

We have reset chassis legs before and repaired quite subsantial damage for quite cheap. But it all depends on what you have to fix cars with.

The car that has cost the most to fix so far is a honda CRX del-sol because the parts are difficult to find for cheap.

i take it you have a full car jig then or do you do it by eye lol

to put that car on the road will cost alot more than the car is worth before it was cat'd thats a fact!!!

you will never get a car 100% straight even with full car laser jigs and for a car that does 140+ mph imo they shouldnt be allowed back on the road simple!!!

And if you did put it on the road the log book will now be stamped to say it's a INS write off,

So a car that was worth 2k has had say a grand spent fixing it would then be worth 800 tops if anyone wants a write off as you can pick a straight one up for not much more. so not financially worth it.

yup thats the problem, good ident free non cat d's can be had for a couple of grand, so factoring in cost of repair, plus lower final value due to the insurance rating, its just not worth repairing Unless it can be done for cheap, chassis legs need repair/straightening on a jig, not by eye thats for sure!

Braking has its on pitfalls as billy said, it can take forever to shift everything...still means i have an excuse to go hide at the weekends when the missus wants to go shopping

Would be silly to try and repair it, you can get into a whole world of bother in the long term etc etc, would have to be VIN checked to check you didnt repair it by glueing 2 cars together, Nobody wants to buy a Cat C car, and your insurance will be higher on a Cat C.

Should get a new 1 relatively cheap with tax and petrol consumption there are people out there who are desperate to get rid of them.

No seatbelt! ouch, I only just walked away without even a bruise when i did my escort, (see profile pic) Airbags didnt even go off, but then again i did headbutt the driver window as a tree came in the back window and took out the drivers headrest :p.

Yup he will get you for whiplash, you will have to pay compensation to his dog whoes now emotionally wounded because the guy hasnt been able to take him for a walk for 2 days and has !%$@ on the carpet, and every other injury hes done to himself over the past 2 years will now be a resultant of the crash :)

Good to hear you both walked away anyway, and Good luck with the car search :)
