Octavia 1.6MPI Estate - First Impressions

Featured Replies

Finally picked up my MPI estate from the dealer today...after 10 years in a Mk1 TDi it's a bit different!

First impressions are of really good build quality, a smooth and quiet engine (although missing the low down grunt of the TDi), and more cabin space, especially in the back. Boot is even bigger as there is no split level, and my son loves the armrest in the back. I'll miss the front armrest, so might have to retrofit a jumbo box at some point!

Pleased with the deal I got, at a tenner under £11k it is, without doubt, a lot of car for the money :D although when I tried to pay with a credit card was a bit shocked when the dealer said there'd be a 3% (£300) surcharge  I even got the 3 year service deal for just under £12/month for 30 months, and just need to sort out some GAP insurance. Audio quality is good, though I need to sort out my iTunes as it's mostly in MP4 file format, which the Bolero can't see...but I think it sounds pretty good, and I'll probably sell my old hifi gear to save me ripping the car apart!

Any clues as to how long the running in takes - I'm limiting it to 3000 rpm for the first 1000 miles or so - is that about right?

Happy days...another Octavia

Was in my local dealer yesterday, they had three brand new MPI estates lined up with a screen price of £12,495.

Sounds like you got a good deal, happy motoring

The need to run in modern motors isn't as important as it used to be, in fact some people suggest it does more harm than good.

It makes sense to take it steady for a while, assuming you aren't 18 and have just passed your test I'd drive as normal, just don't thrash it or tow a caravan for the first few thousand miles.

Check your oil as often as you can as some new cars like regular drinks until things settle down.

Enjoy
