Problem with The Horn

Featured Replies

Hi!

As the topic describes i have problem with my horn!

If i connect power directly to it, it makes some noise!

And i have checked the fuse box no problem there !

I do have a racing style steering wheel wonder if the problem has something to do with that?

Please help :-)

And by the way it´s a skoda pickup -97 1.9D

It's either the switch or the slip ring that's broken then if it works when you power it directly

You might be right!

Everything else is working fine and i can´t see any damage in the fuse box light signal all working fine.

I pulled of the cover under the steering wheel and nothing that looks broken. The little metall rod have connection to to the metall ring under the steering wheel.

If i look into the horn mounted on the steering wheel i see one black cable that is connected to the actual horn, but the horn has 2 connectors so i wonder why?

I just bought this car and the seller told me it was working fine a week ago! he might be lying!!

Don't quote me on this, would have to look it up in the wiring diagrams, but if I recall the horn unit has a 3 pin connector, only 2 pins are used, one of the pins gets. Live feed from the central electrics loom via a fuse, the other pin is switched to earth to activate the horn via the slip ring and horn switch in the steering wheel. My guess is that the black wire you mention is supposed to be connected to that. I'm sure somebody with a wiring diagram or Haynes manual can confirm or deny this. I don't hand mine handy at the moment.
