Slightly high idling

Featured Replies

Hey lads,

Just cleaned out the very manky throttle body on the Felly and also renewed a completely shot crankcase breather pipe. Since doing this, the idle speed has increased to around 1100-1200RPM, as opposed to something like 900RPM beforehand. I suspect the crank breather has absolutely nothing to do with it, and I've double checked that the tube from the air filter to the throttle body is snug and secure.

Does this mean all I have to is reset the throttle body alignment in VAGCom? Or might it point to something else such as the throttle body not sitting right or something?

Thanks fellas,

JJ

You could try resetting it by disconnecting the battery, ive had to do it a couple of times and it works for me.

What i usually do is disconnect the battery and leave it disconnected for an hour or so, then come back connect it back up and then turn the ignition so that the lights come on in the dash and wait for about 15 seconds ish (whilst waiting you should be able to hear the throttle body making a whirring kind of noise as it resets/re-aligns itself) then start the car and see if it worked, obviously when the engine is cold its going to idle about 1100 but if you take it for a rasp once its warmed it should drop to 800/900 something like that.

Cleaning the throttle body would make it idle higher till it's relearned it settings, after a certain period of time it willw automaticaally reset itself as it self adapts so it's not too much to worry about.. But if you are feeling hard core you can reset it with vagcom

I cleaned my throttle body once and got it back to normal idle by disconnecting the battery over night.

Also... if you're feeling fancy you could do it with vagcom! lol

Indeed lads - removed the battery for an hour, took it for a little spin and its sitting nicely 900RPM now. Ordered an OBD cable anyway... for the craic.

Cheers ;)
