Golf mk3 shocks on Octavia mk1?

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a 2001 Octavia 1.9tdi and I am planning on lowering it. Are Golf mk3 springs compatible? Or are there any other springs that are the same such as Audi A3 / Seat etc? Octavia springs seem expensive!

Thanks in advance.

The Octavia shares the same platform as the Mk.4 Golf, not the Mk.3's

The closest Golf would be one of the TDI's, in terms of weighting etc.

You do need to make sure the weighting is the same.

Whether prices are any cheaper, wouldn't have a clue

ps

Welcome to the forum ;)

1) As SM says above, it's the Golf 4 that uses the Octy 1 platform, not the Golf 3.

2) Golfs tend to run in 100 to 150kg lighter than Octys on the same platform, so their suspensions (particularly spring and damper rates) aren't that compatible!

They have to be specific to the Octavia. In addition to this diesel springs will be firmer than the petrol equivalents due to the extra pig iron in the engine!

Others will fit, but they will be the wrong poundage, consequently you'll ruin the handling and make it dangerous.

Thanks everybody for your help :)

I'll loosen the purse strings and get some Octavia ones!
