Hi,

I know wheels for the mk1 octy need to be 5x100 pcd, but what offset is required? Currently looking at some cheap wheels on the internet.

The ones I'm looking at just say "35mm offset".

As I don't have the vRS I don't have the big brakes to clear.

5x100 and ET35 would be fine to me. Very normal offset, but does depend on the width of the wheel obviously.

Seems my current L&K wheels are 6.5J 16 ET42.

The guy says that the wheels I'm looking at are 8" but isn't sure, but that 205 tyres sit just proud of the rim. 205mm is just a bit more than 8" so this might be a bit tight, might have to use 215 tyres?

I'd go to 215s or possibly 225s; 205s with an 8" rim is 99.1%, which is just into stretch (which is a bad idea, regardless of what the Eurostyle stance Nazis say).

My winter tyres are on 7J 16" ET35 alloys with 205 tyres.

The wheels should be/are 3mm closer to the outside of the bodywork than the standard alloys vRS (7J 17" 38mm offset).

They are 16" tsw Imola wheels. Whole thing is moot now cos swmbo just said we can't afford them!

They always say that. What a lot of wives don't realise is that affording things for the car is different to wanting/needing things for the car. You know that you can't afford them, but somehow have pushed it to the very back of your mind so that it isn't really there any more. Works for me anyway.

Is the cost of the 17" tyres putting you off going beyond 16"?

yes its one factor. The other was that 16" wheels seem to be cheaper than 17". I knew I wasn't going to be allowed to spend £200 or more on a set of spider so thought I'd try my luck with some smaller wheels at less than half the price. Still no luck! Will have to sell a few more bits!

In car DVD player anyone?

Might just end up with another set of the L&K chrome wheels if I can get them cheaply enough. Hopefully I can pick them up in ones & twos here and there. I know Shark_90 has one....

the normal et35 8j wide wheel would wear a 225 a good option with no issues

ive used 8x18 et35 225/40/18s and no trouble

also i ran 8x20 et35 225/30/20 and no issues but i do have coilovers

although im now on 8x19s et30 and using 215/35/19s to get a stretch to clear my arches and no issues again on coilies

and in the garage i have some spyders which i cant remember but i beleve are 7x17 et38 and are going to wear 225/45/17 for winter im not 100% on the width of the standard octy spyders tho .................... it seems ive forgot lol
