2.0 140 Turbo on vRS?

Featured Replies

The 2.0 Tdi 140 turbo is on offer at the moment. I will not say where as its limited stock.

Will it fit a vrs? Some of you may now the troubles Ive had with my car, the latest being a 2000 mile old turbo going.

If this will fit, is it worthwhile picking one up and fitting it as opposed to the standard unit?

Thanks

At that price I might buy one and put on my mantel piece.

I didn't think about that. Ill remove the link for my own sake as I'm in desperate need of one.

No, the one on offer won't fit.

Manifold's different, as the PD140 is a 16v unit, the PD130 is 8v.

Balls. Looks like another costly replacement then :(

Thanks for the reply though Wardy

You're welcome. It's been a question that's been asked before, as often PD140 units come up a bit more often.

The only thing I can suggest is that you keep an eye out for a PD130 version on eBay, here, other car forums - I'm sure you are already.

The ones that can be used from Garrett are the GT1749VA and GT1749VB - VA was used on the PD130, the VB for the PD150. VB is a slightly stronger unit and has a larger compressor wheel, so can produce more boost but is slightly slower at coming on boost.

Be careful if you see one listed as a GT1749V - as that could be a PD140 unit. Confusing, I know.

Hope this helps.

I cant really wait. My car is in the garage right now.

Seen as your here maybe you can give me some advice.

I had a turbo blow after 2000 miles. I sent it back to Garrett to check it, they took it apart and now say that I have to buy a new turbo because I can't have it back once they've taken it apart. I had a company tell me they can rebuild it for less than a new one, but Garrett wont send it to them. Also, it's only 2 months old, and they wont cover it under warranty?

Hmmm - OK. Suppose it was a mistake sending it directly back to Garrett - but hindsight's a wonderful thing! If you'd sent it to Turbo Technics or similar they could have inspected it and then sorted it for you.

Where did you buy it from originally? As there could be an argument under Sales of Goods Act that it's not fit for purpose, having failed after this amount of mileage/time.

Err point out that it's your property and that refusal to allow you to have it back could constitute theft? As Wardy said, Sales of Goods Act (failed to last a reasonable amount of time), unless you're car's been heavily tweaked..?

Why has it gone again though? Why did it go in the first place?

Yes, more info required I think emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Either way your turbo definitly should not be going AGAIN after 2000 miles, thats stupid. If i were you id let them keep the turbo and demand a replacement. Thats surely has to be a manufacturing error, and id say the reason your not getting it back is because they know of this issue and know its there fault, and want to keep this away from you. Fight them for it mate coz im sure you will end up winning. If you have a reciept or proof of purchase then surely you should have a 12 month guarentee. Thats what rebuilt turbo's ususally come with (if i remember correctly)

Cheers, Elliott

There is another reason to be considered, I have seen some issues with cars running decat and no silencers, the complete lack of back pressure causes the turbo to overspin as it's not been designed with that amount of free flow in mind.
