NEW Shell Helix Ultra VX

Featured Replies

I was talking to our Shell rep the other day to order some more bulk AVS oil - we are down to a 209 Litre drum - we normally stock 1700 Litres

Anyway he tell's me I can order 1700 litres - BUT it will not be Shell Helix Ultra X like we currently use - it will be Shell Helix Ultra VX, which as well as being Longlife oil is being called "Longlife 3" - due to it meeting the latest VW504.00 & VW507.00 engine specs(not currently used) but the most interesting thing is he tells me that it is compatible with ALL engines in the VW Group - EVEN NON VARIABLE PD ENGINES!

I have asked for a Data sheet and as soon as I can get it I will post the specs that it covers.

oilman mentioned those 2 new specs recently. It will be interesting to see what the price is - ie will it be cheaper for those currently using expensive longlife oils and more expensive for those that don't? Whatever, the new oils are long overdue to help resolve the confusion over the multiplicity of VW specs for various engines, makes and servicing regimes.

One oil type for the whole lot would be better for several reasons, main one being that the price ought to come down and availability go up :)

As far as I know - the price will be the same as the Helix Ultra X Longlife2 oil,but it will make it a lot easier having the one - we currently have to stock 4 types of oil.

But as you say it should make it easier to get hold of.

Unlike my local dealer in Pembrokeshire (West Wales) who stated that they use one oil for all their cars. Texaco Havoline semi synth; which they buy in bulk. When I queried this with them they stated that Skoda were ok with this. I was mad as, as far as I know this oil is not 505.01.

I kid you not, this is the truth. When I mentioned PD specific oil I had the "rolling eyes" look that service managers give "awkward" customers.

My sump was filled with it after 10k service - it is not now.

I have tried to follow the 506 (long life) threads to see if it is ok to use it in my fab on 10k service intervals. This may seem a waste but I can get 5L for
