Would you buy a car with a noisy turbo?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I went to look at a 52 plate Superb 1.9TDI PD130 today with 110K miles on the clock. Looked very tidy etc although having read the posts about water ingress I didn't check the interior lights properly (I've had problems with those pesky door microswitches instead).

Anyway, my main concern was when the owner, or should I say wheeler dealer, took me for a quick drive. The turbo sounded quite different. He quite liked it saying that it was different to his Passat (quite different to my 52 plate Superb too!). It wasn't excessively loud but I did notice it more at end of our 4 minute drive. In fact for a split second I thought it was a police siren in the distance.

To my surprise I've seen that reference to a police siren quite a lot in internet searches. There is even a thread on this forum that mentions it:

There seems to be a bit of debate about this but I was wondering what you guys and gals thought and if you would buy this car.

Many thanks for any advice offered!

PS: Anyone selling a 02-04 Superb 1.9TDI PD130 please let me know! :)
