Increase performance

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I need to increase the performance in my octavia 1.6L MK1 so what modifications shall I do?

I'm already installing a K&N cone filter but it's not making a noticed effect, just an exciting sound.

Can I install a turbo kit on that engine? What will be it's type and specs? What are the other modifications I should go through to act good with turbo?

Kindly advice

You could always change the cams, fit bigger injectors, uprated fuel pump find a suitable turbo and add a custom remap.

Or you could go the whole hog shoehorn a R32 engine in it.

But the amount of time, effort and money require to bring it up to say, that of a stock VRS... you'd probably be better off swapping it outright for a more sporty model.

Agreed, just buy a VRS. ;)

You could buy a 1.8T 20v engine for much much less than it would cost to turbo your 1.6

But along the lines of others here, just replace the car with better engined model.

I'm afraid I'd agree with everyone else; the answer to "how to tune a 1.6 non-turbo petrol" is "buy a car with more potential instead". Even a TDi90 would work, since that remaps to 120bhp for about GBP300.

the only mod that will cost you nothing...strip it

Not really much point on a N/A of the 1600cc. You'll get little gains from an exhaust, filter etc.

Agreed with everyone else about the 20vT lump. Allthough you mayaswell just buy a vRS to start with.

Thanks for every body who answered me

I already have a 1.6L Octavia MK1 for 3 years and I love it, beside that the VRS is not sold here in Egypt, so the idea that I may get a 1.8T engine fixed inside is the best.

For this suggestion shall I change the gear box, ECU, wires and every thing or just the motor?

Think quite alot needed for transplant

Gearbox, drive shafts, intercooler, ecu, wiring loom, etc

ecu will need to be re-coded to the car too

Not sure what the weight difference between the 1.6 and the 1.8 engines is, but if significant you might need to change springs and shocks too.

I suspect you've got the bottom spec brakes too (280mm front and 256mm un-vented rear ?), if so, would be well worth upgrading these to me 312mm front and 256mm vented rear spec of the better models
