A couple of weeks ago, after a long research period, my wife and I put a deposit down on a Yeti SE TDi 140 4x4. Obviously one of the next things you do, after choosing the colour, interior, options and finance deal is to select a suitable forum... so here I am.

The Yeti will be replacing our current Volvo V50 2.0D SE, which has been a great car until recently, when it suffered a few issues with the dual mass flywheel and clutch. It's on a lease deal which expires in October so we're handing it back and getting the Yeti.

When we were looking for a car to replace the Volvo we came up with only 2 options, the Yeti and the Octavia Estate - that's out of ALL cars currently on sale. The combination of features, looks, practicality and price are untouchable by anything else. We had a demonstration car from Skoda UK for 5 days and it sold us.

We ordered through Park View Skoda in Reading and are awaiting our build slot, but they're saying December some time. We're still debating the colour, as we can change it any time up until the "Build confirmed" date.

My car history is varied but before the kids arrived I was on an ever-increasing power curve, from the Toyota MR2 (mk 1), Honda CRX VTEC (mk 2), Mazda RX-8 to the BMW 130i but this stopped when the need to ferry about this new family addition arose. Now we have two so ease of access, luggage space and wipe-cleanability are higher priorities than bhp, 0-60 or top speed. The other car in our household is a Mercedes B200 CDi, so you see what I mean.

I live in Reading, work in the automotive lubricants business and do photography and own a horse - the horse and recent snow are the main reasons for seeking a 4x4; we won't tow a horse trailer but we will find ourselves in numerous muddy fields.

Aaahahaha - that's brilliant! The Skoda forum doesn't recognise the 'S' of Skoda written with the Czech symbol!
