Clutch Failure

Has anyone had an early clutch failure on their Octavia?

Bought new model in April - clutch failed at end of July after some 5700 miles. Severe slippage has been diagnosed. Only a very slight clutch plate smell was noticed some weeks before failure on two occassions. The smell quickly dissapated and no slippage was evident when the clutch was checked on hill starts, etc.

Earlier Octavia owned for seven years did well over 100,000 miles with no clutch problem.
