I've just had my second variable service at around 38000 miles, and looking at the invoice mentioned to the service manager that the air filter hadn't been changed. He said they're only replaced every 60,000 miles! Whenever I've serviced my previous cars myself I've replaced them at around 20,000 and they were pretty cruddy by then. Surely by 60k my filter will be clogged and the engine wheezing? For the sake of a tenner and probably a 5 minute job I think I'll replace it myself now. Anyone else doing this?

I wouldnt be paying a dealer to change an air filter anyway. I'd be buying a decent aftermarket one and replacing more often too!

Even the 40_000 intervals on the Octy 1 are too far apart. I'd change every 20_000.

I won't be either once it's out of warranty.

Retail air filter, fuel and pollen filters, altogether, won't cost what a dealer charges to change just one of them. I do them myself and it is about as diffucult as changing the filters on a Dyson.

I would recommend you take care of this yourself, save money and ensure your fuel and air is clean.

Once a year for the pollen filter and once every other (at most) for the others. Don't cost much and can't hurt.

My local specialist changes these as standard every 10k. 60k does seem like a joke but tbh when the techncician showed me the origianl filter that he removed from mine after 50k I was suprised at how clean it still looked

The service will make good money when your turbocharger is gone and a clogged air filter will help that.

I would change the air filter every 10.000 miles or every year, very easy job to do, buy the original at Skoda and do it even if under warranty.

As soon as you put a new air filter you will notice a better mpg as well.

My car's in for a new AC compressor next week, I'll buy one then.
