Hi.My 6th gear only revs to 3000 rpm or just over and won't go any further.Is this normal.My 4th,5th etc goes to 5000 odd

your 6th gear will rev that far...... if you go fast enough

It stays at that rev range and won't go any faster either.Gets there quick but just stays their.

It's a well kept car,no faults that I know of and 80k fsh.Could it be something blocked

It's just the STD car running out of steam I'm afraid.

i would suggest something is not right, was there an incline involved?

I would expect you to be able to go faster than approx 100 mph in your fabia Vrs

mine used to pull past 3k with ease in top gear

The car should keep pulling to an indicated 140 ish where permitted in 6th. Something is definitely wrong if its stopping at 3000 rpm.

Nope. There's definitely something wrong with it. Were you doing 128mph at 3000rpm? Unlikely so there's something wrong with it.

Hummm, if your going up a big hill, or into a headwind then i`d say its ok, but if you were on a flat road, flat out for a while and wouldnt go any further then maybe there is an issue.

According to my source mph/1000rpm figures are as follows for a later car running on standard wheels:

4th = 21.88; 5th = 27.15; 6th = 32.51

So 5000rpm in 4th = 109.4mph; 5000rpm in 5th = 135.75mph; and 3000rpm in 6th = 97.53

I'm pretty sure now that it would get near 4000 rpm in 6th given a long enough road.It just doesn't go round the revs quickly,which is normal looking at others on Utube

To the OP - what happens if you change up to 6th when going in 5th at 5,000rpm? Does it slow down all the way to 3,000rpm?

From max revs in 5th then change to 6th it goes slightly faster but takes a long time.

I understand the car does a max 128,as I said it's no Ferrari

Plus on the earlier gearboxes the car will go quicker in 5th iirc
