Help - High level brakelight failure

Featured Replies

Hi,

2007 Octavia II Ele Estate. Noticed that my high level brakelight is not working the other day. No warning lights in the instrument panel. Wouldn't this warrant a warning normally? Have the maxi-dot if that makes any difference. Also the rear washer is working normally. No apparent leaks.

My question is, does this sound like I need to change the high level brakelight? Or does it sound more like an electrical issue?

Thanks in advance!

I don't think the high level LED strip light is monitored by the car so it won't prompt a failure warning.

Are the two main brake lights working OK? (Eliminates switch / fuse / wiring issues).

Are the number plate lights working? (Determines if there is power getting to the boot lid).

Are the interior boot lights working? (Helps to understand if the micro switch is faulty in the lock mechanism - this has been known to cause unusual electrical problems).

Power is fed to the tail gate through a corrugated / flexible rubber tube in the top left hand side just above the strut. Does this have signs of wear; could the wires have been pinched?

Also, some strip LED's will fail to illuminate at all if just one LED fails. I'm not sure if this is the case on the Octavia though.

I'd be tempted to tap into the feed wire as close to the brake light as possible to ensure its getting power, if it is then it is likely you need a new light assembly.

Number plate light is working, same with the interior boot lights. As are both main brake lights. Sounds like it's the strip then.

So thanks a lot:)
