Superb 1 2.5v6

Featured Replies

Hello folks.

My 2005 Superb 2.5 V6 Auto Diesel has been in dealers for nearly three weeks, they did diagnostic check which showed nothing, and have changed glow plugs, filters and fitted new low pressure pump in tank, checked fuel pump and it is worse than ever. Any answers??

Why did they change the glow plugs if there were no fault codes?

I take it they have not charged you for changing 6 perfectly good glow plugs? :dull:

That is what I would like to know. Car on extended warranty so I didn't pay.

At least they were not just changing things and bumping the bill up then

Can't help you any more though as I know nothing about the 2.5TDi

Have they checked if (mechanical) injection pump timing is out of specification?

On this engine, you want timing close to upper tolerance, I set mine to 0.4ATDC and this gives perfect start every time for the last 4 years. At 1.5deg ATDC starting is already difficult, often you need to crank for 3s, and that was with relatively new engine and very good quality fuel.

3.5deg ATDC timing will not give you any error code, but good luck trying to start the engine at all.

Adjustment takes <10mins assuming the person doing it really wants it done (it is very fiddly, we are talking slight nudge giving 2 deg difference).

I asked technician (mechanic !!) this and he said he had set it.

The car is booked in again for next week so I will show him your post then.

Thanks for your help.

Has it had a recent cambelt change?
