Running temp

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

Forgive me if this has been posted a few times...but iv not been on here much

Iv just finished swopping the thermostate on my V reg 1.6 Mpi Felicia

did the usual things....drain...swop...refil with anti-freeze mix....run at fast idle to get upto temp took if for a run round the block.....wait for rad-fan to cut in( which it does....phew)

only thing though is she used to run at aprox 1/2 way on the gauge....and now she seems to be just slightly over

Where should the needle point on the gauge on normal running???

Thankyou

That's where mine sits. It does appear that is 1/2 way between the two extreme marks. Before I replaced the thermostat it always seemed to sit below the middle mark. However, it seems to have run better with it where it is, so I've not been worried.

Cheers

Just fitted a new thermostat myself (1.3 mpi) and sits just under halfway mark; incidentally fan cuts in i would guess about 4 or 5 degrees higher than it used to (at just over 100 degrees rather than about 98(ish).

Surely its the switch (that screws into the radiator) that determines the temp when the fan cuts in? Can't see how changing the thermostat would have any effect?

yes^^ that's right, the fan is controlled by a thermoswitch in the radiator... if a thernonstat change has had this effect its probably got an air lock somewhere in the system
