Featured Replies

ive tried the columbus rn510 head unit in works no bother apart from having no steering wheel controls but when i left the car for a couple of hours came back unlocked the car no key put in the ignition i could here the head unit makin a noise like it cooling fan was operating ive been to to dealer say that i need to ask a question about a canbus gateway up grade they think im talking rubish so i need some help please martin

It boots up when you unlock the car. Also the fan runs for about 15 mins after you lock the car too

How many threads do you need for this?! :)

As jrw says the fan will run independantly of the unit, I believe there is a temperature sensor in the Columbus to turn the fan on if the components get too hot.

You should only need a new gateway if you are getting battery drain problems which should only occur if you decide to upgrade the firmware and it is not compatible with the gateway you have in the car.

Assuming you have the multi-function steering wheel then you should be able to get that working with the aid of a helpful member on here who has a VCDS unit to recode your car to suit.

Ian.

Still trying to ascertain what CAN gateway revision is fitted.... (see other thread!)

I fear that the first the OP knows about this, is when the car fails to start with a flat battery emoticon-0108-speechless.gif

Hi, for thr MFSW buttons you have to reprogram the firmware of the Columbus. I' am an Octy 2006 2.0 TDI wagon, I had the Stream radio. The first step was the upgrade to MFD2. the second step was the MFSW. I had to change also the board under the steering wheel ( the mine was without the lin-line and you can' t reprogram it ).The third step was the RNS 510, very excellent unit. The first problem is the CAN Gateway. The old can gateway doesn't have all the features of the new unit, so you get the error of "unit not programmed". You can let the old gateway if you use the car often ( I don't experienced the battery drain...), but I think that in a car network is better that every cpu is communicating fine..... I have changed it, I feel better response on Maxidot ( no freeze ). The second problem is the MFSW... you have to reprogram the firmware of the unit RNS 510. I have done it with the F/W 2660 that has the vim option ( video in motion ). Everything is working fine after 4 months, I spent one month for understand and solve the problems...good luck
