higher, less harsh ride

Featured Replies

Hey

Have a mk1 Fabia vRS with a raceland coilover kit in it (was put into the car shortly before I bought it)

While I like the look of the lowered car I'm just generally unhappy with the hard ride quality and have some clearance issues around where I live with speed bumps etc.

If I took out my coilover kit and replaced with standard shocks and maybe some decent lowering springs would this give me A: better ride quality? and B: Higher ride height?

My current ride height is quite low (will measure it asap) but it looks killer

I would think so, yes.

are you running standard shocks and eibach springs mate?

that's what I was thinking of doing, how does that look and how does it ride?

I'm running Eibach's on standard shocks.

Ride is smooth yet handles a lot better, especially at high speeds and can also go over speedbumps easily.

I think that could be the way forward for me

I started this reply 5 minutes ago with the premise "if the coilovers are reasonable...". From googling around it appears they're "cheaper" rather than "better". Eibach springs with Eibach shocks or Koni FSDs seems reasonable. I have the Eibach (Sachs) dampers. They're around 1" lower than standard ride height.

Another way would be to get a better quality set of coilovers with lower rated springs. Most coilies seem built with 1 or 2 standard spring diameters. You'd need to experiement with rate and unloaded length...

If ride quality is a big issue then I would recommend Eibach Springs and Koni FSD's I went this way to improve performance and standard ride comfort, worked brilliantly in both respects with the added bonus of -25mm lower which works brilliantly in the real world!
