Do you think this is a fair swap?

Featured Replies

Hi, I was trawling through pistonheads as I am looking for a diesel, popped octavia vrs in the part ex section and found this http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3112803.htm car in which he wants a p/x for an octavia.

After much talking about both cars we agree'd a straight swap would be the best choice for us. both cars has some minor body work, mine is black with a few stone chips.. his has a small scuff on the bumper and my front end has a few stone chips and scuff marks on it. Mine has done slightly higher mileage at 94k his on 86k

is a straight swap fair? Last year i'd have liked to get a bit my way and I have recently spent big money sorting rear bushes etc but I need a diesel and fabia vrs's are just way too much imo..

Has anyone got any experiences with them, I know about expensive dmf's and rear subframe bushes and what i've read about online but that's about it

I would drive one. Having owned a mk3 as a work car, cache honestly say they are a horrible drive. The seats are appalling.

U think you'd miss your VRS and regret it personally and the other person'd be laughing.

but i'm just thinking would get 10 mpg better everywhere, heated front screen, more toys, this one has full leathers in it..

i'm really not sure, plus id get £400 back from the insurers

and judging by the state of the economy my octavia will be worth 50p by next year when super unleaded is 168/l lol

Need to check the bottoms of the doors as they rust. Injectors can be a problem and each has to be coded to the car when changed. Here's a buying guide My link.

If i was you i'd get a octy 130 tdi, better built car than the mondeo, with more bits avalible to modifiy it, remember every other car's a mondeo and there's nowt you can do to make it stand out from the crowd, yup they all look the same.

I don't mind not standing out from the crowd to be fair means less chance of a break in.. I do like the mondeo's and this one has been mapped so will have a bit of poke

10mpg?? When i rented a mondeo a few years back, I only got 45mpg on a run, my Octy does 39mpg without trying on a run. Yet a m8's octy does 60+ i.e york to doncaster and back without the bloody fuel gauge moving! :'(

I agree, that's my car Raf's talking about! I'd have another pd130 without even thinking about it. Not sure I trust Fords....

I dunno.. think its the heated front screen that's selling it to me haha

sounds as if your octy is a lot better on fuel than mine then :giggle:

Why not look for a MKI Octavia TDi Elegance or L&K then?

The 110BHP engine has amazing economy (mine never dropped below 60mpg average) even the later 130BHP will still return 50mpg.

They have more toys than your vRS, are quick enough and cheaper to insure

no one would want to swap though I highly doubt ideally I want a fabia vrs but none around that would swap and I can't be without a car

It's great until you get a chip or unseen damage to the screen. Then you turn it on one frosty morning, and crack goes the screen. Been there done that.

Looking back at the mileage forms for my mk 3, best it managed over 3 years is 44mpg. My Octavia 2.0FSI can manage 38ish regularly.
