clutch works as he limped home in third after selecting 3rd from under the bonnet gear handle flops about as if not connected to anything

clutch still disengages and engages

Gear linkage to the gear selector could of gone? tried pulling up the gator and seeing in anything is disconnected?

I would suggest gear linkage cables too. Check under the gator in the car, and also at the gearbox end....

Top of the mornin' t' you.

I'd agree that this sounds like either the linkage is way out of adjustment, or the pin that connects the base of the lever to the linkage cables has broken.

Oh and way o/t, but nice usertag. I've fond memories of watching our Jimmy, and Pentti, driving those! :D

cables move everything to the top of the box sorry if my first post was not very clear

its inside the box things r gone wrong is there anything after the cables to change bar the whole box?

Ball joints in the gear linkage then I would say.

was on holidays the last coupla weeks

brother bought a new gearbox it turned out there is a shaft going down into the box with splindes on it all the splinds had given way

he changed this off the new box and its perfect.

Cheers for getting back to us; that's a bit of a one-off issue against the usual ones we were looking at.
