Fecked Dual Mass

Featured Replies

Had my Vrs serviced and Belt changed 8 weeks ago then on Mon this week started car and noticed shake in steering wheel and vibration in engine. Car is 5 yrs old with 50K miles Went down to dealer yesterday and he has diagnosed a fecked Dual mass, claims it is most unusual, car is purely used by me for commuting to Hospital. Anyone else has similar The 1K repair bill leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. Car has full service history with supplying dealer, Don't think i'll ever be buying another Skoda.

The dealers are lying through their teeth then - most unusual ;) It's not most unusual. It's fairly common, and it's not just specific to Skoda either - lots of other cars use a DMF - so don't let it put you off.

If it really is the DMF that is shot, then shop around an you should be able to reduce that repair bill to something more like £500. You can get a new DMF from EuroCarParts for £230 ish with the CLUTCH15 code, and fitting from an indy garage is probably around £200 - £300.

Not putting your foot to the floor before ~2.2k RPM should help extend the life of your new DMF.

As above, it's pretty common. Might be worth putting a new clutch in while it's there, Although a decent indy should be nearer £150 to swap it.

So with me trying to conserve fuel and always driving below 3K revs is that what has done in the DMF

Sounds like. Have you been changing gear to early when the revs are low??

Avoid putting your foot down when it's sub 2-2500rpm in a high gear. So if your doing 60 in 6th and want to pull away, knock it down a gear. It'll also help tour mpg because the engine won't be struggling at low revs

When you say put you foot down do you mean, normal speeding up or flogging it?

just be careful with non gen parts, i work in a garage and 9times out of 10 we end up pulling the box out some time later to replace a broke non gen flywheel and they have every excuse in the book why it wont be covered under warranty.

good thing for me is i can get trade so genuine flywheel with good discount lol!

I agree with Dan

Although non gen parts are cheaper - on a part such as a clutch flywheel - where you are taking on average 8 hours labour for a fitting & refitting - Its always best to stick with OE parts

LUK and SACHS are fitted as OE on almost all Skodas (well, all VAGs to be honest) - So you know you are buying a genuine part, in a different box! - WIN WIN

If you have any questions, i can help you find the right one for your car!

Erm thats something i have always quried at work but no one can answer my question lol! Like you said luk and sachs are fitted to vw and i woundered if say non gen sachs clutch is the same as a genuine clutch.

They fit sachs on fords and comparing the gen to non gen parts clutch flywheels both made by sachs quality dosnt seem the same. Now i asked this question at work as im in need of a new clutch soon and woundered if the to clutches were identical in terms of quality? I can get a gen clutch for £97.Be intresting for me get a price on non gen one too.

in almost all occasions the Original part will be identical to the SACHS or LUK part with the exception of the vehicles logo (VW, Skoda etc...) and their part number....

The warranty is exactly the same regardless if its a SKODA or a SACHS part

There are MANY occasions where a SACHS or LUK DMF or Clutch end up with the Skoda stamp on the unit - as i said there is one production line, and multiple boxing lines (one for Manufacturers box, and one for SACHS box)

If you pop your reg on our site, it will find the clutch for your car, and you can compare it - £97 does sound very cheap for a Skoda clutch kit :)

hope that helps!

Cheers, yea its a good price all good been in the trade eh!!!!
