Couple of rear screen elements not working

Featured Replies

Been like this since I've owned the car - The lowest two elements of the rear screen demister have never worked. Not so annoying as its only right at the bottom, but I'd like to see about getting them re-connected up to the electrics which are still working fine with the other dozen or so elements.

Is this an easy fix?

not sure mate, mine is the same, i think the track must be damaged where a previous owner has removed a sticker. there might be something you can buy to reform the track.

hopefully someone can help, ill find out what i can:D

:) to find out where its open circuit rig a 12v test lamp up, connect one lead to one side of the HRW and run the other connection along the HRW track, the bulb will jump in brightness when you find the break in the track, you can also do the same on the other feed to the HRW, use a small piece of tape to stick to the glass to mark the position and use some silver conductive paint to repair the break after first cleaning the section with some meths, the section that breaks is usually only about 1/8 inch so you dont need to put much of the silver paint on the track

or just look for the little break and small black burn mark on the screen, certainly easier  and halfords do heated screen repair kits, only a couple of quid.

mine's broken too btw :(

Tried those window elements kits before on an older car..never worked so gave up worrying.

The silver-doped paint from Maplins worked a treat on my Xantia and on my mate's old 205. The breaks in the element we had were easy to spot unaided too, TBH...

never tried it myself but have bought the stuff for other reasons
