Turbo charging your 1.6 Felly

Featured Replies

I have been spending a bit of time over on Club Polo as i am doing some research as i am considering a bike carb setup for my AEE 1.6

now i spotted something on a little ol thread over there, an advert for a AEE Turbo exhaust manifold and downpipe and cheap too...

i have had trouble registering over there so can't PM the seller to see if they still do them, but it could reduce the time/cost of any turbo conversion on a AEE so any of you looking to go faster in your fellys it might be worth a think...

also for £100 some guy offers to chip your ecu(includes you sending if off, he fits it himself and sends it back) gives a bit of a boost (4-6bhp and 7nm torque) there a few people that rated them quite highly over there...

I would love to see someone else(i don't have the wonga) try a turbo conversion on the AEE engine

I saw this thread A few days ago and it started me thinking about it, any engine can be turbocharged if you apply the correct amount of money/skills/time, to make it durable you'd need to spend a lot of money updating the engine internals, a turbo system doesn't just consist of a few external gizmos and some old scaffold tube, the hardest thing to get right is probably the fuel system/mapping..

If you wanted a real bodge up job I could probably do it for about 500 quid but it wouldn't last more than a few thousand miles if that! Tbh you are far better off putting a different engine in there although I would love to have a go at supercharging one.. If anybody has a felicia which is fit for the scrapyard and doesn't mind me ruining and possibly blowing up give me a shout, Ive got a couple of old superchargers knocking about.. Would be a bit of a laugh :wonder:

Tom where could uprated internals be obtained for an AEE, surely nobody would bother..

really want you're saying is to do a decent turbo conversion we would need a decent aftermarket standalone ecu, like an omex 6000(something like that) and a few session on a rolling road to get the car running right..

i would have thought the internals would take around a 40bhp turbo boost without more than halving engine life.

personally i think if i turbocharged my Felly the box would probably blow

So is it possible to supercharge a 1.3 or would the AEE be better suited...

i don't know anything about superchargers.

when i get my another car in feb we could try supercharging my motor for a bit of a giggle

You can get forged h section rods for an aee From sorg motorsport in Germany but they are circa £900, low compression pistons can be made to order if you know where to go, again circa £650.. It's the con rods that will fail first on those engines tbh.

If I was going to supercharge one in pikey mode I'd trick the standard ecu into working, it would probably never pass an emissions test ever again though.

i was going to turbo my 1.6 lump but its to much ass ake so i got a mk3 golf gti 2l 8v to use lump out off that

It's not an easy fit to put a 2.0 8v in there, trust me I've done it... If you are going to go to that much trouble use a better engine!
