Favorit .. Slight Hesitation

Featured Replies

This isn't noticeable in first or second gear but in 3rd,4th or 5th there is a period of slight hesitation at around 2,500 - 3,250rpm. It's only slight and clears just after 3,250rpm and it pulls cleanly to the redline. The following components have been replaced - plugs, leads including coil, rotor arm, dizzy cap, coil, air filter, fuel filter and the throttle body/butterfly area has been cleaned. The valve clearances are bob on (0.20mm exhaust, 0.25mm inlet) and I'm getting good mpg at around 40-45. I took it up to Scotland on Monday/Tuesday of last week covering 500+ miles in 2 days and it ran faultlessly other than this very minor issue. I could live with it, but I'm willing to chuck a few more beer tokens at it if anyone can steer me the right way!

Forgot to mention that it is fine at small throttle openings, it only hesitates at 50%-full throttle. My first thought was that it was running a touch lean, but the plugs are spot on colour wise.

What sorts of road speeds do you get at those revs in 3rd and top? If it's in the 20s in 3rd, and anywhere between 50 and 80 in top, I'd suspect a flat spot that's been induced to get better mpg on the EY testing regime.

Spot on with those road speeds.
