tuning query

Featured Replies

I have just bought a mk1 octavia vrs and have a couple of questions regarding tuning. Im looking at getting a stage 1 remap and I would rather pay more and get a decent job done but I'm not sure on the differences between the different brands of remap.

Also, is there any other upgrades that I should get with a stage 1 remap such as an upgraded clutch or anything?

The car is completely standard at the mo. Many thanks.

Many of the good mappers are also sponsors of Briskoda so worth a search to find out a bit more.

I reckon the larger majority of VRS owners on here have a Shark map and their STS unit allows you to upload the map remotely and his prices tend to be pretty competitive (look out for one of his deals).

Personally though, if i was going to get one again, i would find one local to me, so that if you did have any issues/niggles it isn't such a big deal to go back to get it sorted, although i don't think many people suffer issues, it at least gives you a bit of peace of mind.

It is also worth running the car in normal state for a little while to get to know it first, and i would suggest upgrading the handling before or at the same time as the map (e.g. RARB and coilovers (Weitec a common option and affordable for most). Apart from that no other changes are strictly necessary.

thanks very much for the advice mate

I am in the process of getting my VRS ready for a remap ( i am going for an R-Tech map) so far i have 007P valve, defin'd air box and green panel filter, weitec coilovers, whiteline RARB, TT/Powerflex lower arms. I am going to change to a G60/VR6 clutch and flywheel set up and also fit a uprated dogbone mount but i think that is everything i need.

Sounds like a nice set up, although for other readers benefit, none of these changes are strictly necessary, although the RARB and coilovers will make a noticeable difference to handling and some regard as essential if you are running more power, as in standard form the handling of the RS is not good.

The RARB has got to be one of the best mods relative to its price. :)
