DIY fix for rattling Fab door cards

Featured Replies

After six months of trying, I've finally managed to stop the passenger door card from rattling in my Fabia when I have the stereo tuned up. The problem seems to be with the different components of the door not fitting exactly and vibrating at certain frequencies. Sorry for the rubbish pictures, but if anyone's interested, I'll get the camera out and try and sort something better.

Anyway, all you will need is a torx screwdriver, a roll of insulation tape, a stanley knife and some 1" cable grommets.

First, prepare the grommets. You will need to make two cuts with the stanley knife on opposite sides of a grommet as shown by the red line (i.e. NOT all the way through!) Then fold the grommet in half in the direction of the green arrows, and tape it up in that position.

Wedge this folded grommet on the inside of the door pocket where the two components of the door pocket meet at position B.

Next stack four grommets on top of each other and wrap them with tape.

Remove the three torx screws from the bottom of the door card, and pull it a fraction away from the body of the door. Reach in and wedge the grommety cylinder in position A with one flat side against the door body and the other against the inside of the door card. Then clip the door card back down and put the screws back in. You may notice that the door card bulges outwards ever so slightly, but you won't notice unless the door is open. You shouldn't have any rattles however!

Also check the two large screws that are located behind the armrest (where the leccy window switches are)

Mine were missing on the vRS!

Was this a little excessive? :o I still get vibrations because I forgot to put something between my crossover and the door pocket in which it resides, but once thats sorted I should be all quiet too. Good job there!
