Recently I noticed a lot of slack in my handbrake cable and I could feel the brake(s) were sticking. Turns out it was the rear n/s caliper piston that was stuck. The mechanic reset the caliper with a special tool and I had to replace the pads. That was about 3 weeks ago and I think it has happened again; I left work this evening and noticed the car wasn't rolling back when I removed the hand brake, I suspect the caliper may be knackered?

What I want to know is how much does a new caliper cost? Is it cheaper to get mine reconditioned? I've seen some on ebay from a breaker that are selling for £75 (£49.99 plus £14.99 postage) is that a good price?

thats £65 combined...i'd say for £50 just for caliper is ok if its in really good nick.

Sure i can get them for a similar price from work for new recon units. Ill have a look in the morning if you want

Oops! haha! My maths isn't what it used to be! I got the price wrong though, I've just checked and it's £59.99 for the caliper.

Holy jesus that's over £50 just for a splash of green paint! Still £107 is a lot cheaper than the £170 I have heard Skoda are pricing them at! Thanks for the link.

I've just had a quote of £100 for the caliper and fitting. The only problem is that it isn't a green caliper :-( Can I get a caliper paint kit from anywhere?

I've really got to go with this, if I keep driving it while I get hold of an already green caliper I might end up screwing up my discs or having to replace the pads again!
