Reverse vibration

Featured Replies

Hi there,

This has been happening for as long as I can remember and is getting increasingly annoying as I have to reverse into my parking space now.

This might just apply to 1.2 manuals, but might also be the same on a 1.4 or 1.8 or even diesels.

Basically, I am not sure if this is normal, whenever I reverse and lift the clutch a bit with a bit of throttle, the whole car judders (doesn't seem to be because of the lack of revs). Is this normal or is the gear set really high?

Thanks!

Have not noticed this on my 110 diesel.

My 1.8 TSI does not judder when reversing.

Mines an auto so I can't help, sorry emoticon-0114-dull.gif

No problem with my 1.2TSI either.

Wife's Fabia 1.2TSI 85 is judder free as is the Yeti 4x4 diesel; only related thing I get is a very occasional 'thump' when letting the cluch out changing gear while on the move (going forward). Not quite worked that out yet, although the last Monster had something similar but more 'clunk' than 'thump' :wonder:

Machines can be just as unpredictable as the better half; that's why their always she not he  might be worth having her checked out mind if it's getting more noticeable.

TP

no judders in my 1.2 Tsi manual either

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.

I am going to have it booked in. On other transmission related issues, since new first gear is sometimes hard to engage (can only engage 1/2 way through), fourth gear vibrates theough gear stick, and the aforementioned juddering reverse, oh and the reverse could be quite "heavy" to disengage after reversing.

The juddering happens when I put some throttle and starts to reverse and it judders for about 1 second before getting going. Never happened to any other cars before....

All of those put together lead me to suspect a possible mislaigned gearbox/gearbox mount. Will definitely book it in.

Possibly an iffy dual mass flywheel issue?

Umm - you'd struggle to find a Dual Mass Flywheel on a petrol Yeti :wonder:

I have actually logged that when it was brand new, so I am not sure if it is DMF - I would be really annoyed if it is, especially it wasn't replaced when new!

Unfortunately, there is DMF on the 1.2 TSI, well at least the 105 hp version. seems to be some discrepencies between the VW and Skoda cars *or* the 86 and 105 hp version regarding which flywheel they use.

Actually less of a worry now, just re-read through some emails and the dealers work sheet in July 2010 and September 2010, they investigated the 1st gear and the 4th gear problem, but nothing was found then. At least it was logged ... useful when I need to proof that it has the problem since it was nearly new!

It's just that the judder thing seems instinctively to be more of a clutch/flywheel thing rather than a gearbox selector problem but I'm not a mechanic. Once had to have the clutch replaced on a brand new MX5 as that had judder setting off, caused by oil contamination on the clutch disc according to the tech who did the job. Weird that yours only does it in reverse though.

Thanks, DMF is one of those dreaded things, but its seems to be avoid them now - the DSG has DMF and all VW diesels have them. They have never been much of a problem on low power petrols and I think the durability of diesel DMF has gotten better.

I've had this many years ago on a couple of cars.

A few revs and deliberately slipping the clutch cleaned up the clutch plate and either cured or improved the clutch action.

I'd certainly give it a try....

Thanks for the advice, might give it a go!

Well worth trying. A typical Subaru problem; and thet usual cure!
