Roof bars/Roof box question?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've been considering buying some roof bars for my 2001 octavia hatchback to fit to the mounting points on the roof so i can then carry a roof box when needed.

My question is how do these boxes mount to the bars? Obviously by using the mounting points on the roof for my bars they won't be adjustable back and forth like they would be if i used roof bars that fit onto existing roof rails. Do the boxes come with adjustable fixings or are they car specific?

If anyone has any photos or the fixings or boxes fitted to octavia hatchbacks that would be great.

Hope that makes sense,

Thanks,

Shaun.

The Thule roof boxes I've seen have thier mounting points on rails to allow for forward/back adjustment on the roofbox itself.

Do you know if the roof bars that clip into the rails are the same on all model hatch backs up to 2004?

SWMBOs Leon uses the fixed mounting points and the Halfords roof box we have has a sliding bit on the rear brackets and a number of holes for the front brackets. The rear brackets probably allow for around 200mm of movement which will be more than adequate.

Love the pic, yellow vrs is the way to go. Wife disagreed so have had silver and now black. Are the roof bars the ones that clip into the 4 slots on roof? If so what make are they or is there a skoda part number on them? Thanks.

I got SWMBOs roofrack from http://www.roofrackshop.co.uk/.

I needed it in a hurry and they were OK price wise and got next day delivery.

Hi trundlenut, were they the type with 2 little claws that go in the roof slots?

No, on the mkI Leon they bolt down into a threaded hole under the cover in the roof channel.

Now im even more lost, unless thats why some bars are listed up to year 2000. Maybe the earliest octavias had the same as your leon.

Possibly, but I have an estate with roof rails so not had to find out.

On the Leon the cover for the fixing points is only about an inch long.
